Berlanga
vida y cine de un creador irreverente
XXXIII Premio Comillas 2021
Villena, Miguel Ángel
Luis García-Berlanga directed seventeen feature films throughout his career, including masterpieces such as Welcome, Mister Marshall, Plácido, El verdugo, or, in later years, the hilarious series that began with La escopeta nacional. With a particular sensitivity to portray the picaresque using the grotesque and ironic tenderness, Berlanga managed to circumvent the attacks of censorship and open with his cinema a very personal avenue of social criticism, which has given rise to the category of Berlanguiano. Creator of unforgettable stories and characters, the Valencian director brought to the screens a world of his own, in which, along with a penetrating look at collective realities, highlights an erotomania and an obsessive and undoubtedly controversial female imagination.
