Germany, 1957. Uli is a young musical enthusiast who harbors a great dream: to become a famous Broadway dancer. But as a modern dance student at the prestigious Folkwang school, his upbeat personality and outgoing way of dancing come up against the despondency and nihilism of post-war Europe. On a trip to Berlin he meets Anthony, a young American dancer. The attraction is immediate and leads them to have a brief but passionate idyll during which Anthony sings to Uli about the wonders of New York, transporting him to the vibrant world behind the scenes of Broadway. The young people separate, but, seduced by the American dream, Uli will pack his bags and embark on an adventure that will lead him to a new life full of color and movement, but also disappointment, harsh reality and bitter heartbreak.
