Azaña y Madrid
Pau Pedrón, Antonio
Madrid was for Azaña, in his student years at El Escorial, distant lights that attracted him due to their mystery. Later, living in Madrid, the city was the scene of his long solitary walks. In his youth articles he saw Madrid as a small town without vitality or enthusiasm. But soon, when he begins his political activity, he considers the need to "think Madrid": the republic needs a capital at the height of its ideals. In his mind the idea of ??Greater Madrid is making its way, which war will make impossible very soon. But before that, he has enjoyed his favorite Madrid: that of the mountains of El Pardo, that of La Quinta, that of the nearby towns -El Escorial, Guadarrama, Villalba, Manzanares el Real...-. When war broke out and the government moved to Valencia and then to Barcelona, ??Azaña would make a single trip to Madrid, which he probably knew was the last; He then delivers one of his most beautiful speeches about the capital, which he calls an example of dignity, sacrifice and hope.
