Aventureros del Nuevo Mundo
héroes y villanos que forjaron la América hispánica
Navascués, Javier de
The project of establishing a Christian society in the New World encouraged its conquest and colonization. The spirit that inspired him was that of "go and preach the Gospel to all nations". However, for many of those who made the Americas, the motives were more earthly and immediate: money and sex. In many cases, the prevailing reality was "grow and multiply." Miscegenation is one of the arguments that shows more clearly how the Spanish empire was formed in America. Spanish America was built thanks to men and women with nobility and weaknesses. And like any human project, it also had the action of maneuverers, villains and traitors. The discovery and colonization of the continent during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries was not as black as many say nor as white as others imagine. Adventurers of the New World refutes one and the other, and shows the portraits of some historical figures who, together with thousands of anonymous colonists, crossed the ocean and started what would end up being the longest empire in modern history.
