Agatha and her cousin Larry are in Toledo to investigate a robbery at the home of a famous collector: a sword said to have belonged to the Cid. Days later, in the museum of Segovia, a compass of Christopher Columbus is stolen. What is the link between these two robberies and a mysterious black car that has been spotted both times? Agatha and Larry move to Ávila, where the cross of the inquisitor Tomás de Torquemada is housed. The legend says that these three objects were the finds collected by a medieval alchemist to arrive at the formula of invisibility.
