In this brilliant novel there are three losses and three searches. The English writer Aliza Abravanel tries, in battle with aphasia, to finish her book. A last indigenous speaker is confronted with the disappearance of his culture and his language while an anthropologist fights to prevent it. Through the construction of an esoteric theater of memory, a survivor of the Guatemalan genocide seeks to recover the memories lost after the traumas of war. And after these three stories, a very intimate one: that of the narrator, Julio, a professor of letters without illusions who, after being appointed literary executor of his friend Aliza, travels to the artists' colony where she spent her last days and manages, through reading his posthumous manuscript, settling accounts with his past.
