One of the slaves who ends up in the hold of the ship is Djembo, a boy of the mud ethnic group, intelligent and resigned, for whom the cabin boy Marc Badia feels a current of sympathy. But when he sets sail for Cuba, the Triton is intercepted by the British frigate Charleston, which captures him and leads him to Freetown, where, with the exception of Captain Ferrer and Marc, the rest of the crew is handed over to the authorities. colonialists in Sierra Leone to be tried for slave trade. And it is aboard the Charleston that young lieutenant Simon Flaherty enters the scene, a sailor of Irish descent who will sacrifice a promising career in the Royal Navy for love and a sense of responsibility. From that moment on, the destinies of these three characters come together and, despite the separations and vicissitudes that each one has to face, a deep feeling of friendship will remain alive over the years.
