Astoria
Tabuenca-Meroño, Ángela
In the summer of 2015, Lucía, a young Italian-Spanish who works as an aid worker in Sicily, decides to leave everything behind her (family, work, her partner) to embark on a solo trip along the West Coast of the United States in search of of itself and its roots. Her paternal grandmother, forced to emigrate from America to Sicily to get married and Lucía's father who died when Lucia's father was still a child, was originally from Astoria, a small town in Oregon famous for having been the setting where The Goonies, the mythical film, was filmed. from the 80s, a cult work for an entire generation. In the few but intense days that she lives in Astoria -in the midst of a debate about mass tourism that had doubled the population of the small coastal city on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the film's premiere-, the calm that Lucía longed for falls apart: she will meet Brad, a university student ten years younger than her, and she will discover that her family has lied to her all her life and that her grandmother may still be alive, there in Astoria.
