Antología poética
Mandelshtam, Ósip
Poetry - wrote Ósip Mandelstam (1891-1938) - is a plow that bursts time in such a way that the deepest layers, its humus, remain on the surface. "This broad and representative anthology of the Russian poet, one of the best of the twentieth century, collects samples of his work from his first book, "The Stone", still influenced by the aestheticism of the European avant-gardes, to the third and last of them, the "Notebooks of Voronezh", written in his second exile and culmination of his poetic art in which he embodies man and time in his own person and painful circumstance. Mandelstam was one of the many victims of Stalinist absolutism. Condemned to a first "soft" exile in 1935 after being arrested the previous year by "anti-Soviet and counter-revolutionary activities" (that is, for his dissent and for an acid epigram against Stalin), he was again sentenced, this time to forced labor, and deported to Siberia in 1938, where he died in the month of December.
