Antiguo Egipto

introducción a su historia y cultura

Ikram, Salima

Salima Ikram is Professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo. The author, an archaeologist specialized in ancient Egypt, has published several academic and informative books, among which it is worth highlighting works of the relevance of Death and Burial in Ancient Egypt and Divine Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt; and, with A. M. Dodson, The Tomb in Ancient Egypt and The Mummy in Ancient Egypt. This book offers us a rigorous and entertaining introduction to one of the greatest civilizations of all time... ancient Egypt. It begins with a geographical overview that will help us understand the development of the Egyptian belief system and the subsequent political development, examines the methodology and history of that Egyptological discipline, religion, social organization and urban and rural life, in addition to the funeral rites and beliefs. It also addresses the lifestyle of the different social strata of ancient Egypt. It includes abundant illustrations, with photographs of little-seen places. Therefore, it also serves as a basic textbook in introductory courses to ancient Egypt. In addition, it offers various tools for the student, such as a specialized glossary, a bibliography and a list of sources, useful for those who wish to deepen their interest in ancient Egypt.
