Amb Poblet al cap i al cor
el Pare Bernat Morgades i el seu temps (1911-1963)
Culla, Joan B.
Looted and abandoned in 1835, the monastery of Poblet regained its monastic life in 1940 with the arrival, under the auspices of the Franco regime, of four Italian Cistercians. A few months later, the first Catalan vocation in more than a century was added, the Esplugí priest Bernat Morgades i Òdena, who, during the following decade, became the mainstay of both the spiritual and material resumption of the village monastery. In 1950, however, a series of ecclesiastical and ideological reasons that this book analyzes in detail led to the misfortune of Father Morgades, who was expelled from Poblet, exiled to France and sentenced to an exile difficult to understand that would become a cruel life sentence. The Morgades case illuminates from a hitherto unknown angle the relations between Church and dictatorship, between Catholicism and Catalanism, from the Civil War to the early 1960s.
