Aloma

Rodoreda, Mercè

At eighteen, Aloma is a lonely and dreamy young woman. When her brother-in-law, Robert, arrives from America to settle in the family home in Barcelona for a while, he will be surprised by feelings that are as contradictory as they are unknown to her. This is an unhappy love story, the story of the failure of a complex relationship in a worn-out family environment, narrated through lyrical and symbolic components around the deepest human condition. Because Aloma, disappointed and sad, must abandon her adolescent ideals and learn to face life.
