There has not been in Spanish literature a literary friendship as notable and fertile as the one between two of the most influential Latin American writers of the 20th century: Jorge Luis Borges and Adolfo Bioy Casares. When they met, Borges was a successful author, fifteen years older than Bioy, a young man fascinated by surrealism. This was the beginning of an exceptional partnership in which Borges initially took on the role of mentor, but little by little he began to learn from each other. A dozen titles emerged from this collaboration, including fantastic stories and police novels. The first of their joint books, Seis problemas para don Isidro Parodi, is starred by a singular detective who solves cases without moving from jail. All these extraordinary works, created not by Borges or Bioy but by "a third writer" who combines the best qualities of both, and published under the aliases of Bustos Domecq and Suárez Lynch or by their real identities, are now brought together after much time in a single volume with a foreword by Alan Pauls.
