Alexandra David-Néel
exploradora y feminista
Agniel, Laure Dominique
Orientalist, tibetologist, opera singer, pianist, composer, feminist, journalist, anarchist, writer, explorer and Buddhist are just some of the adjectives that describe the French Alexandra David-Neel, one of the most famous travelers of all time and the first European woman who managed to enter - disguised as a beggar - in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, at a time when foreigners were prohibited from entering the holy Tibetan city. Born in 1868, Alexandra's almost 101 years were intense and full of an insatiable need for adventure in which there was no place for the traditional role of mother, although there was a central character in her life: her husband, Philippe, with whom she reluctantly married but whom she loved during the four decades of her marriage. Independent and indefatigable traveler, her free and restless spirit led her to travel as many countries as she could and to write more than fifty books about eastern religions, philosophy and narratives of her travels, and she did not hesitate to renew her passport at the age of one hundred; maybe there was some adventure left to live.
