Alegría
XXIV Premio de Novela Ciudad de Badajoz
Carmona del Barco, Miguel Ángel
Joy doesn't want to be like her mother. She has grown up on the brink of an abyss and clings to her studies and her work so as not to fall into it. But Mario arrives, raised by blows and humiliations, so strong and at the same time so fragile. He hugs like a rose bush, which smells good and digs into the skin. At the first prick, Alegría tries to get away, but the rose bush has turned into a bush. She no longer knows how to get out. That new world -of adolescent camaraderie, afternoons in the pool and discovery of sex-, becomes forbidden because to her no longer corresponds to any world: she is already just one element, one more possession, in Mario's world.
