Alberto Closas

This book is more than just a biography of Alberto Closas. In the first place, it aims to correct the inexistence of an exhaustive compilation of his theatrical and cinematographic activity, as well as to clarify what his origin was, since many people believe that he was born in Madrid or even in Argentina. Secondly, to vindicate the memory of his father, Rafael Closas, committed to the republican cause from various positions of responsibility in the Generalitat de Catalunya under the presidency of Francesc Macià, to that of Conseller in the last government of Lluís Companys in 1938. That was the trigger that led to the exile of the entire family to France, in January 1939, and later that of the two older brothers to Argentina from Paris. His work was always carried out in the shade, far from public notoriety. And your memory should not be lost slowly between oblivion and melancholy. This is, therefore, also a story of the exile suffered by a family that, like so many others, suffered the defeat that, after the Civil War, dispersed like a gale to so many inhabitants of a divided and humiliated country in which, in reality, everyone lost. In this case, for one of its members at least, Alberto Closas, success accompanied his wandering and ended as a story of triumphs and recognition. The magnitude of the family archive has allowed nephews Francis and Silvia to reconstruct a historical period of a city and a country and to highlight the best of people and characters, drawing with their lights, and also with some of their shadows, a portrait as accurate as possible of a man and his circumstance, particular and common, proper and non-transferable, special and general. One more life, neither more nor less.
