Ahir Roma, avui nosaltres
Rodá de Llanza, Isabel
The cultural footprint we have inherited from the Roman world is even more valid than ever. They created the first globalization by establishing a multiethnic empire, with vehicular languages: Greek, mainly in the East, and Latin, which became what we might call today's English. They put into circulation a single monetary system, such as the current euro, and had a market that spanned the entire empire and a well-advanced right in its time. They knew how to manage recycling, garbage and packaging without return. The bikini, the pedestrian islands and the traffic restriction, the fire service, the fish farms, the prefabricated architecture were common... They had clear ideas about ecology and the environment, elections and candidates, pandemics and how to call time. Economic cracks and climate change were no strangers to them. Things as ours as calçots, mushroom zeal or barretina also find their counterpart in the Roman world. A strong cultural heritage that shows the need not to despise the classical world, because whoever loses their origins, loses their identity.
