Aby Warburg y el pensamiento vivo
Centanni, Monica
(ed.)
Aby Warburg and Living Thought presents a chorus of voices of philosophers, philologists and cultural historians, who appear together for the first time as elements of the same constellation of thought: Giorgio Pasquali, Mario Praz, Gertrud Bing, Arsenio Frugoni, Giorgio Agamben , Guglielmo Bilancioni, Alessandro Dal Lago, Gianni Carchia, Salvatore Settis, Kurt W. Forster and Maurizio Ghelardi, whose essays were originally published in magazines or in editions now inaccessible, and cover a chronological arc that goes from the beginning of the 1930s until the first years of the 21st century. Eleven contributions, all arising in Italy (including Gertrud Bing and Kurt Forster, "Italians of choice"), which represent Warburg's line of "living thought." Thus, linked in the new interpretive framework proposed by Monica Centanni, they clearly show a layout that mitigates so many misunderstandings and mystifications to recover and revalue the methodological importance of Aby Warburg in the history of European culture. This book promotes the true meaning, unpublished until now, of his method and his legacy; above all, the revolutionary organization of his Library, moved in the 1930s from Germany to London, and the Atlas of Memory (Atlas Mnemosyne), the pioneering machine à penser, an essential and inexhaustible instrument that stimulates infinite connections between form and content.
