A las afueras de la cruz

las sectas de origen cristiano en España

Santamaría del Río, Luis

One of the characteristics of religious pluralism is the existence of sects. It is estimated that around 1% of the Spanish population is part of these groups that move along a broad spectrum that ranges between religion and the search for personal well-being. Although secularization has affected the growth and diffusion of the most religious sects, they continue to be a reality that we cannot ignore. These pages offer updated information on almost a hundred sects of Christian origin present in Spain, organized by "families": of Catholic or Anglican origin, of Protestant origin, from Adventism, metaphysical or healing, restorationist, prophetic and messianic. From movements with more than a century of history in our country and thousands of followers to small groups with modest activity that is sometimes limited to the field of social networks; Here its origin, history, doctrines, practices, internal organization and dependent entities are analyzed. The detailed study of each sect and the overall vision allow us to understand the title: On the outskirts of the cross, because, despite the appearance and Christian terminology, these movements show a progressive distancing from the main nuclei of the faith in Jesus, as he was reflected from his beginnings in doctrinal formulas, liturgical celebrations and his own lifestyle.
