A l'horitzó
Díaz, Hernán (1973- )
In the early 19th century, two young Swedes, Håkan and his brother, decided to emigrate to New York. During a stopover on the voyage, Håkan makes a mistake and gets on a ship that takes him to San Francisco. Alone, helpless, without a penny or speaking English, all he knows is that he has to go east. Along the route through the vast expanses of American territory, you will come across gold diggers, Indians, swindlers, naturalists, religious fanatics, and bandits. His imposing stature and prowess will eventually make him a legendary being who will experience desire, greed, love and betrayal in all its forms. With this western -which is, at the same time, an antiwestern-, Díaz challenges conventions and stereotypes and gives us a radical portrait of uprooting. An emotional story that is both a profound evocation of isolation, a survival novel, and a story about the devastation that accompanied the American dream.
