A cadascú el que és seu
Sciascia, Leonardo
We are in a village in the interior of Sicily. An anonymous letter threatens to kill the pharmacist Manno, a man who until that day lived quietly, had never done any harm to anyone, and did not get involved in politics. But Manno ignores it and the threat is fulfilled on time during a hunt. Laurana, a young high school teacher, will try to expose the killer amid a network of silence and complicity formed by the mafia, the church and a group of corrupt cops. With To each one his own (1966), Leonardo Sciascia portrays the Sicilian people with the subtle political overlaps of the mafia. A bitter and ironic black novel full of the genuine civil and narrative passion characteristic of the author that over the years has served as inspiration for authors as diverse as Andrea Camilleri, Vázquez Montalbán and Italo Calvino.
