Ética cosmopolita
una apuesta por la cordura en tiempos de pandemia
Cortina, Adela
In these days of more than justified concern about a lethal pandemic, two questions are often heard: will we get out of it? and what will we have learned for the future? And yes, we will get out of this, although many will remain -or we will remain- along the way, because all the epidemics have been overcome badly or well. But what will happen in the future will largely depend on how we exercise our freedom, whether from an inclusive "we" or from a fragmentation of individuals in which ideologues play to seize power. It is at this point where we will show that we have learned something. For the first time in history the human race is confronted with universal challenges and has to respond from different instances, one of them, ethics, because it is the one that deals with the ends. It is not enough then, although the moral norms and customs of the micro levels of societies are necessary, it is necessary, for the first time in history, an ethic for the macro level, which takes charge of the common ends of humanity: an ethic cosmopolitan.
