While tearing the lining of a cello case, Grégoire Coblence, a cabinetmaker, discovers an old sheet music. Intrigued by that worn booklet that someone decided to keep secret, he shows it to his partner, the luthier Giancarlo Albizon. In search of answers, they go together to visit the famous harpsichordist Manig Terzian, who immediately embarks on the interpretation of this complex piece, in which she believes she emotionally recognizes the rhythm, the art, the dazzling beauty of the music of the teacher to whom he has been dedicating his life for more than forty years. Is it the work of Domenico Scarlatti, the most illustrious of harpsichord composers? And if the Neapolitan had not composed 555 sonatas, but 556? They could find themselves in front of an exceptional document, an unpublished piece... Attracted by this possibility, the Belgian collector Joris de Jonghe and the musicologist Rodolphe Luzin-Farge decide to get involved in the investigation of the provenance and authenticity of the manuscript, which disappears in a robbery. Absorbed in this game of chess to which fate drags them, in a context in which truth and lies, honesty and pretense intertwine and collide over and over again, these five characters will be forced to question their experiences. , their loves, their duels, their desires and their mistakes. Big surprises await them, because nothing is what it seemed to be: page by page, chapter by chapter, we witness an exciting investigation into the past, human passions and the world of classical music. Not even the most perceptive of all of them imagines that the stolen score will change their lives forever.
