18 de julio de 1936
el día que empezó la Guerra Civil
Mera, Pilar
On July 18, 1936, the Government of the Second Republic addressed the Spanish through the radio to announce the rebellion of the Army in Morocco. It was eight thirty in the morning. Although the note tried to convey calm and normality, the life of an entire country stopped between shots and rumors. After months of conspiring, the main military commanders rose up all over Spain. A hot Saturday in July turned into a frenzied succession of hours, doubts, betrayals, and death. The coup was not successful, but it weakened the republican state and unleashed the revolution that it claimed to want to avoid. The map was torn in two. The Civil War began.
