Us

Soler, Sara

What happens when the life you had assumed takes a 180 degree turn? Nothing... And also everything. Us is the love story of Sara and Diana, and also the story of Diana's gender transition. After the first fears that this sudden turn in her relationship would end with her, they realize that they continue to like and love each other, and that nothing has changed between them. Now, they will have to come out of the closet and face the gaze of their family and social environment. The origin of Us is a fanzine that Sara Soler published in 2019 to tell about the transition process of her partner. After four reprints of the fanzine, Sara decides to make it grow and turn it into a graphic novel that tells how they faced that process together, with a compendium of revealing anecdotes: Diana's difficult confession, her grandmothers' reaction, the first time they dared to peeing in a public girls restroom or how Diana has discovered mansplaining. Us aims to make the trans reality visible and contribute his vision and his grain of sand in the face of the great misinformation that exists about gender dysphoria, with humor and from his own experience. It talks about how this process changed the way of conceiving the world of its protagonists and at the same time made them realize that nothing had to change so much.
