Can a garden save a life? Can a gardener save the planet? The characters in the stories that make up A piece of land, who in some cases plant gardens and orchards and in others contemplate or care for them, embody the best of the human condition. They are everyday heroes who, with small gestures or great feats, contribute to making the world a better place.
