Tristesa de la terra
Vuillard, Éric
In a less refined style than other later works of his, Vuillard exposes in this story the portrait of a man devoured by his myth, and that of an entire nation -the United States- founded on the massacre of the Indians, the plunder of the lands and in the show. And he does so from the exciting story of Buffalo Bill's life, and how he decided to keep his legend alive in the most unexpected and extravagant way: he traveled the world with the Wild West Show company, doing his part, killing the Indians, with firing bullets, whom he had annihilated in reality. For the show he had surviving Indians who had seen their families killed and who, by force or necessity, were forced to relive the horror.
