Sustancia de hígado

Recinos, Michelle

Violence permeates the stories of Liver Substance in the way it seems to have established itself in today's world, that is, as a systematic, common device, so common that it only generates indifference. Sometimes it is the State that exercises it, with greater or lesser brutality - this is the case of this book, censored by the Government of El Salvador at the Guatemala International Book Fair - and other times, it simply appears among the daily lives of some characters who have lost the ability to react. Babies bought from poor mothers to turn them into advertising claims, companies that profit from the pain of rape victims, missing girls who appear in the newspaper as if they were models. Human misery laughs at the characters of Recinos and the mockery reaches us, envelops us and drowns us in that bitter and viscous substance in whose familiar repugnance we recognize ourselves as deluded, broken individuals, ready for anything and accustomed to suffering.
