Sunset Park

Auster, Paul

Miles Heller is an introverted young man who, at the age of twenty, decided to leave New York and break all ties with his parents. Seven years later he has not resumed contact and lives in Florida, where he works in a company that is dedicated to emptying and cleaning the apartments of the evicted to sell them again. Unlike his peers, who loot what they can, Miles photographs the abandoned objects to prove that the missing families were once there. When sixteen-year-old Pilar Sánchez enters her life, she thwarts all of her plans. Maintaining a relationship with a minor can cost you jail, and Pilar's older sister does not hesitate to blackmail them with it. That is why Miles decides to return to New York until the young woman turns eighteen and meanwhile live in a squat in Sunset Park with some friends. The return to the big city unleashes an inner journey that will confront him with old ghosts and open wounds from the past.
