The enterprise of trying to write "apocryphal" novels, which I imagine were written by an author who is not me and who does not exist, I took to its ultimate consequences in this book. It is a novel about the pleasure of reading novels; the protagonist is the reader, who begins ten times to read a book that, due to vicissitudes beyond his control, fails to finish. So I had to write the beginning of ten novels by imaginary authors, all in some way different from me and different from each other: a novel all suspicions and confused sensations; a whole corporeal and blood sensations; an introspective and symbolic; an existential revolutionary; a cynical-brutal; one of obsessive manias; a logical and geometric; an erotic-perverse; a telluric-primordial; an allegorical apocalyptic. Rather than identify with the author of each of the ten novels, I tried to identify with the reader...
