Parte de mí

Parte de mí

Sanz, Marta

The reader is holding in his hands the diary of a writer during the first year of the pandemic. A peculiar diary, since she wrote it in successive Instagram entries, under the hashtag #ParteDeMí. The first entry is from April 17, a month after the confinement was decreed, and the last, from December 31. In each entry, an image: in the first one appears the box of grandmother's threads, a box that is "part of me", like the rest of the things that will emerge. Thus, the cat, the library books, old family photographs follow each other; images of the father and his paintings; the nurse niece; the lady who hides on the other side of certain snapshots; the staircase that opens to the outside world and the sun on the balcony during the confinement; a plate of macaroni; the cover of an Agatha Christie novel in an old edition of Molino; the photos of the great-grandmother, of the red grandmother, from the wedding day; postcards of Cyd Charisse, Vivien Leigh and Catherine Deneuve... The house and its corners are transformed into an adventure and an object of investigation: the body, strange and vulnerable, inhabits a strange space within a strange reality. The ducks roam freely through the streets of Madrid and the silence prior to the tsunami is heard. Later, images of the recovery of the "new normal": a trip by train to attend a professional engagement; the presentation of a book in one of the bookstores struggling to survive the crisis; participation in a demonstration for public health...
