The Thanksgiving Address of the Haudenosaunee (or Confederacy of the Six Iroquois Nations) is much more than a poem, a speech or a prayer: it is a great song of greeting and thanks to all living beings, recited collectively in the morning, for centuries, in a territory that embraces part of what are today the United States and Canada. It also constitutes an inventory of the natural world, where each element of the ecosystem is thanked for everything it contributes to the prodigy of life.
