Noche en París

XII Premio Iberoamericano de Poesía Hermanos Machado

Jiménez Millán, Antonio

Characterized by its formal and thematic variety, Night in Paris contains narrative poems, prose poems, haikus and sonnets, distributed in five sections with a predominance of the intimate vein and the suggestive power of memory, which rescues moments of intensity, apparently forgotten photographs , people who left and different cultural stimuli. From childhood and adolescence, illuminations of the present arise in the first section, "Memory of water", and both in this section and in the following one, "Portraits", the references to painting and literature are directly associated with life, as in the prose poems in the title section of the book. The tribute to the French capital is linked to its character as a cultural center and symbol, not only of the historical avant-garde but of current trends. The five sonnets of "Fragility" emerged during confinement, which offered us the ghostly landscape of empty cities and the risk of the unknown. The last section, "Sentimental Mood", evokes love experiences that follow the common thread of music, as a way of traveling to the past: classical music, jazz, tango, bolero, French song and Spanish singer-songwriters. Very different notes that, however, are part of sentimental education and recreate fragments of life.
