Mil cerebros

Mil cerebros

una nueva teoría de la inteligencia

Hawkins, Jeff

This work presents a new theory of the brain, based on the "decentralized" structure of the neocortex and its basic units, called cortical columns. According to the hypothesis that Hawkins proposes, the function of these cortical columns is to attach frames of reference to objects in the world, and also to abstract concepts. This allows the human brain to locate itself in the world and to function in it. Through the collective activity of these columns, the neocortex makes a model of the world and continually updates it. There would be no "central checkpoint" in our brain, and far from seeing the brain as a super-complicated computer, Hawkins describes it as a memory system that stores and replays experiences to help us predict what will happen next. Contrary to the widespread idea that the brain is a tremendously complicated system, Hawkins argues that, in reality, the capacities that we associate with intelligence, such as visual perception, language, music, mathematics, science and engineering they rely on a single, relatively simple algorithm that artificial intelligence models will soon be able to emulate.
