Los Maple
Updike, John
In 1956, well-known writer John Updike published a short story, "Snow in Greenwich Village," about a young couple, Joan and Richard Maple, at the beginning of their marriage. Over the next two decades, he returned to these characters over and over, tracing their years together, raising children, finding moments of intermittent happiness, and facing the anguish of infidelity and estrangement. In 2009 the long history of The Maple was brought together in a single book, shaped like a novel, and with a new final chapter that brings us back to the life of the marriage long after their traumatic divorce.
