Los héroes de Hitler
Hernández, Jesús
The defeat of the Third Reich marked the end for a regime that devastated Europe; But that defeat would also mean the forgetting of many stories of audacity, courage and cunning that some of the combatants carried out, who with their brave acts believed they were doing the best for Germany and her compatriots. These pages collect those episodes that will undoubtedly arouse the admiration of the reader, from the desperate resistance of the German troops in Narvik, surrounded by the allied troops, to the terrible siege of Cholm, in which the Germans endured the daily assaults of the Soviet troops in addition to hunger and cold, passing through the obstinate maintenance of the position of Cactus Farm, in Tunisia, before the successive attacks of the armored vehicles and the aerial bombardments or the heroic defense of Carentan carried out by fierce paratroopers. He will also learn about the exploits of the corsair ships in their raids across the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean, as well as the courageous actions of the "ghost sailors" who repeatedly circumvented the blockade of the enemy fleet. The work includes the unpublished story of a German officer who, after suffering the amputation of his leg on the Russian front, led an unusual exploration mission south of the Sahara, facing the Free French Forces. Thanks to the testimony of the family provided to the author, his life and his personal photographs come to light for the first time. For their bravery and bravery, they were all rewarded with promotions and decorations, becoming Hitler's Heroes. But, considering the regime they fought for, should we see them as heroes or, on the contrary, as villains? After knowing their stories, the reader will have the last word.
