Leandro Fernández de Moratín
el ilustrado errante
Premio Antonio Domínguez Ortiz de Biografías 2021
Fernández Díaz, David Félix
This biography of Leandro Fernández de Moratín aims to collect all the contributions related to his life and environment made to date. From the centenary of his death to the present, new chronicles, biographical studies or analyzes of a diverse nature on the illustrious reformer have only tried, more or less conspicuously, to influence the dusty edges of such a famous figure in Spanish letters. Widely conditioned by his dramatic writings, Moratín has been a kind of metonymic appendage of a homogeneous, orderly, seamless neoclassical theater. However, his life, which according to Pérez Galdós "is as interesting as his works", remains a puzzle to be assembled. Meticulously documented, David Félix Fernández Díaz's approach to the "errant enlightened person" starts from his letters, diaries, non-literary writings, and projects his person in the light of the historical, political and literary evolution of his time. Thus, the reader is offered the vital narrative of a figure that reverberates in a singular way in the period between centuries.
