Las guerras médicas
Grecia frente a la invasión persa
Jara Herrero, Javier
The medical wars, the name by which they have gone down in history, were the culmination of the tense relations that Greeks and Persians had maintained since the 6th century BC. In the midst of an authentic cultural and political revolution threatened by the Achaemenid advance, several Greek polis decided to join forces to face the all-powerful Empire of Xerxes. Javier Jara, one of the most prominent historians of the period, analyzes in detail from a new perspective -that of the new studies of war- the conflict that left such decisive episodes as the resistance of the hoplites of the Spartan king Leónidas in Thermopylae or the naval battle of Salamis, which strengthened the progress of the democratic system in Athens and the evolution of classical Hellenic culture.
