Las campanas gemelas

Las campanas gemelas

Mytting, Lars

The ringing of the Butangen Twin Bells has been traversing its small valley for centuries as a thunderous warning sign. These bells were forged after a mold made in memory of the Siamese Halfrid and Gunhild Hekne. Everything surrounding her mysterious story, sound, and memory of the sisters seems fraught with the ominous prediction of what is to come. When a newly graduated priest settles in the town in 1879 and he is followed by the strange envoy of a German university, which has acquired the whole of the church, which is going to be dismantled, it seems that, finally, that future arrives to Butangen. The Twin Bells is an exuberant, almost palpable story about how new ideas confront memory, tradition and legend and about the heartbreaking desire to give in to modern times.
