La travesía final
Calvo Poyato, José
Elcano received, in 1522, the right to wear a coat of arms with the motto "Primus circumdedisti me." Carlos I granted it to him after completing the first circumnavigation of the earth. That feat, which generated many tensions with Portugal, made him one of the most respected sailors in the kingdom. Rewarded also with a generous pension, he was not, however, going to stay ashore so easily. He was a seaman by race and all his efforts were directed to the preparation of a new expedition that, navigating the open route to the Spice Islands, would incorporate them into the dominions of the King of Spain. Elcano dreamed of being its captain general and he will achieve it... but, at what cost? A new novel where historical events and characters from a key period in our history come together in which Elcano's life unfolds after having traveled around the world for the first time. A few years in which Carlos I cherished the project of incorporating the Spice Islands into the Spanish empire and in which the House of Spice Contracting was founded in La Coruña. It was at that time when disagreements with the Portuguese and agreements to close royal marriages were frequent, and there were also strong tensions in the court and war against the France of Francisco I, who would end up imprisoned in Madrid. Elcano will be a witness to all these events and the protagonist of others, such as the Badajoz-Elvas Boards, where cartography, one of the great State secrets, will be of great importance.
