La señora Dalloway

La señora Dalloway

Woolf, Virginia

Mrs. Dalloway recounts a day in the London life of Clarissa, a lady of high birth married to a Conservative MP and mother of a teenage girl. The story begins on a sunny morning in 1923 and ends that same night, when guests begin to retire from a party at the Dalloway mansion. Although a tragic event occurs in the course of the day -the suicide of a young man who returned from the war psychically disturbed-, the essence of the work is that the events are narrated from the minds of the characters, with a language capable of drawing the meanders and elusive rhythms of consciousness and of expressing the condition of women in a way that is both intimate and objective.
