La pandemia del capitalismo

una lectura interesada de la crisis del coronavirus

Coscubiela, Joan

The coronavirus acts as a mirror that gives us back our own image as a society and, at the same time, as a magnifying glass that enlarges the vision of our problems and weaknesses, the global ones and those of each country or community. Many of the effects that we attribute to COVID-19 have their origin in a social system that has long sent us signals of clear environmental, social and democratic unsustainability. We are witnessing a great paradox, capitalism is today the only existing socioeconomic system, it has no alternative, but at the same time it shows obvious signs of exhaustion. Joan Coscubiela, from his corner in the world -Europe, Spain, Catalonia- offers us an interested reading of the coronavirus crisis, and proposes us to imagine a new civilizing social pact, which requires, first of all, to rebuild the moral sense of the economy, assume our great eco-dependence, bet on cooperation and find new balances between society and the market.
