La mujer temblorosa
o la historia de mis nervios
Hustvedt, Siri
In 2006, while speaking in public at a tribute dedicated to her father, Siri Hustvedt began to shake uncontrollably from head to toe. "My arms were flailing excessively. My knees were bumping into each other. I was shaking as if I were in a seizure. The amazing thing was that my voice was not affected at all. I spoke as if I was still undaunted", she wrote. It was as if she had suddenly become two people and was unable to recognize herself in that part of her that seemed sick. Captivated by that episode, she decided to go in search of the trembling woman. In these memories, Siri Hustvedt tries to find a diagnosis that solves that mysterious transformation. Delving into the history of medicine and his own biography, and delving into disciplines such as neurology, psychiatry and psychoanalysis, he signs a unique book in which, in the tradition of authors such as Oliver Sacks, science and literature walk hand in hand with the aim of illuminating what we do not know about ourselves.
