La memòria ets tu
Bertrán Bas, Albert
My name is Homer and I lost my family during the war. I crossed the Pyrenees on foot with fifteen years of exile. I grew up orphaned in the streets of Barcelona and almost died in the prisons of Uruguay. I drank with Hemingway, greeted Hitler, and made love to Franco's car. They shot me in the back and shot me in the heart. I silenced El Molino and Bella Dorita kissed me. I grabbed the Sitting Bull knife. I have been where the wind dies and I have slept among lost treasures. I was shot. I have inspired geniuses and met others. I drank until I fell, I laughed until I cried, I dreamed, I stole and I killed. And I fell in love. Three times. All three of the same woman. This is my story. This is my odyssey. Homer is a fifteen-year-old teenager, the only child of a wealthy family in Barcelona, ??who is left alone during the Spanish Civil War. His life is transformed into a struggle -both internal and external- for survival, loneliness and self-discovery. While doing his best to keep track of his father, in his mind is always present the untamed Chloe, a farmer who saved his life and will mark it forever. Although they both belong to different worlds, their lives will be intertwined at various times and situations over a decade. The memory is you is a unique journey through the eyes of a boy who, while trying to discover who he is, advances through the history of Spain crossing with characters such as Robert Capa, Hemingway, Hitler, Machado or Bella Dorita; witnessing inventions such as table football, mythical places such as the Mill or historical moments such as the collapse of Uruguay, the entry of nationals in Barcelona or the meeting of Hendaye between Franco and Hitler. Because knowing our history is not the same as witnessing it.
