La luz que fuimos
rebelión en Córdoba
Rodríguez Ramos, Antonio Manuel
Córdoba, 1009. The people of what was then the capital of the world rose up in arms against the tyranny of the sons of Almanzor, backed by mercenaries and fundamentalists. This rebellion was not the result of a sudden malaise, but the corollary of a movement planned and conceived in secrecy by a kind of assembly or council. That revolution would provide the political backbone for society, giving rise to the creation of its own army and integrating itself into the nascent government. But the eagerness of the supporters of the dictatorship to regain power and the resistance of the people of Córdoba to lose it led to a long and bloody civil war, which would spoil the grandeur of Medina Azahira, Medina Azahara and the Umayyad Caliphate itself, with the proclamation of the republic in 1031. Nothing in the future would ever be the same again.
