La furia de Sharpe
Batalla de Chiclana, 1811
Cornwell, Bernard
In 1811, in the midst of the War of Independence, voices began to emerge in Spain that defended a break with the British troops and a rapprochement with Napoleon. And the discovery of some compromising letters from the English ambassador to a prostitute only encourage that proposal. Meanwhile, Cádiz is besieged by the French troops of Claude Perrin Victor, and the rifleman Richard Sharpe, with the invaluable help of his comrades Harper and Moon, receives the order to find the recipient of the letters and recover, at the same time, the themselves. However, they arrive in Andalusia at a bad time, just as the troops under the command of Sir Thomas Graham are preparing to break the siege to which the French lines have subjected Cádiz. A splendid intrigue, the devilish narrative rhythm so characteristic of Cornwell and the color that it gives to the war scenes are put here at the service of one of the most spectacular episodes of our War of Independence: the battle of Chiclana (March 5, 1811 ).
