La frontera lleva su nombre
Moreno Scheredre, Elena
From the end of the 19th century until the 1950s, the humblest young women from the valleys of the Navarrese and Aragonese Pyrenees crossed the mountains on foot to work in the espadrille factories on the French side. Like the swallows, they left in October and returned in the spring, full of hope and laden with fabrics and furnishings for the trousseau that would constitute their contribution to a future marriage. Esperanza Ayerra is the great-granddaughter of Esperanza, a swallow that crossed the Pyrenees in 1913 and from whom the greatest world war robbed her of her future. She is the granddaughter of Esperanza, known as Perla, who had no father or husband, due to the cruel fate of a divided Spain. She is the daughter of Espe, a woman who swallowed her sorrows and whom history left breathless. She is the fruit of the border between two countries that move away and come closer when their inhabitants fall in love.
