La extranjera
Durastanti, Claudia
The protagonist of this story -the author herself- feels a foreigner for several reasons: she is the daughter of mute parents, which has separated her from the "normal" world; he descends from a family of immigrants who left Italy for the United States and was born in Brooklyn, in a foreign country. Later, when she returned to Italy with her mother to the family village at the age of six, she was a foreigner in her country of origin, because she was not born there, and she continues to be when she decides to move to London. This is a book about the past and the present; about the family; about parents of humble origins who lived a stormy marriage that ended in divorce (according to family legend, the mother had met the father saving him from suicide); about a complicated childhood and a lonely adolescence marked by literature; about the need to discover oneself through a vital and cultural education...
