La doble articulació del silenci
Alarcón, Maite
For a long time, Hugueta Sagan believed that making dreams come true was blowing and making bottles. The father, despite being very busy with the management of the pious school where she now worked, had always overprotected her, in contrast to the mother, who had always left her boundaries very clear. Mother hadn't been very affectionate, not curmudgeonly. Was there an adjective for that middle term that could define it? Middle terms are often left without linguistic representation. "Women must stop mentioning everything, Hugueta, if not, we are bound to miss the trains", she often told him. That way of talking about his mother had always annoyed him. "Pay mentioning" is what she could have done! "Pay mentioning" was such an archaic expression! Why didn't he say to be careful like everyone else? She would soon be forty years old and all that was left of that intrepid and defiant young woman was her firm step. Clack, clack, clack.
