La contaminación lumínica
Pelegrina López, Alicia
The dark sky not only constitutes an important scientific and cultural heritage, but also an axis around which to develop sustainable tourism activities and whose lack, derived from light pollution, affects our health and that of ecosystems. The study of the firmament has gone hand in hand with the development of different civilizations and has been and is an important source of knowledge. The observation of it was decisive for the development of navigation by sea or to specify the beginning of the sowing season in agricultural societies; It has also allowed us to know the position of our planet in the galaxy or to discover that we share a chemical composition with the stars. This work delves into the knowledge of a growing environmental problem: light pollution, of which it analyzes its main causes. Through its pages we will learn to identify when a sky is polluted and what techniques and instruments are used to measure said pollution. In addition, it presents the results of the latest scientific research related to the impacts of light pollution and proposes possible actions to mitigate this growing problem.
